I am Douglas M. McCullough (Mac), President and Primary Instructor for Stone Mountain Firearms Training
Service (SMFTS). I formed this company to serve the Atlanta area firearms
shooting public with sound instruction on the responsible, safe and
effective use of
handguns and armed self-defense, and to provide an information resource for related topics.
Class size is kept small (four students or fewer).
We use SIRT Pistols to support much of the hands on exercises both in the classroom and on the range. Click here to learn about SIRT Pistols.
We provide .22 rimfire pistols or centerfire pistols equipped with .22 rimfire conversion kits in all of our basic pistol courses. They are also equipped with Crimson Trace laser grips for use in analyzing sighting and trigger control problems. We use .22 rimfire handguns because learning to shoot is easier with the low shot report and recoil that these guns provide. If students use our pistols ammunition is included in the cost of the course. Students can at their option elect to use their own centerfire handguns but if they do they must supply their own ammunition.
We rely on Total Participant Involvement in all of our courses.
All skills included in the lessons are explained, demonstrated and practiced until proficiency is demonstrated.
Students in our NRA courses are provided with an NRA Student Packet which includes a User Guide for the course material and several brochures pertaining to the NRA, safety and training opportunities.
Students who complete NRA courses receive a certificate of course completion.
NRA pistol courses meet the requirements for the Florida Concealed Carry License.
All of our courses are supported with Power Point slides and video.

I am Distinguished with Service Rifle and hold a Bronze Leg Badge for Pistol.
My rating for Service Rifle was High Master when I retired from competition in 1988.
Several years ago I started shooting handguns as a result of wanting to be armed for self defense and realizing that it would take some work to do it right. Recently I was Certified by the National Rifle Association
(NRA) to teach First Steps Pistol, Basic Pistol and Personal Protection
Inside the Home. Those three courses are the foundation for what we
do at SMFTS.
My goal is
to make it safer in our community as a result of improving the
knowledge, skills and attitude of our students with respect to the use of handguns and thereby to help
preserve the right of all of us to keep and bear arms as clearly stated in the
Second Amendment of the US Constitution.
